Where Has All the Responsibility Gone?

Written by Denny DeGroote from the ALM Department · November 30, 2009

The other day, I was visiting with a friend about the need for regulation, including among others Cap and Trade and health care reform.

He brought up the recent credit card reform bill and said, “See, the government needed to intercede to protect the consumer.”

It got me to thinking – what about personal responsibility?

Our society seems to live under the mindset that someone will take care of us. We’ve lost our way.

I am reminded of that old Pete Seeger song, “Where have all the flowers gone?” More like “Where has all the responsibility gone?”

Community financial institutions, this is your time. Show consumers back to the ways of fiscal responsibility!
